Sustainable Design and Nanotechnology
Learn to think like a next generation engineer. Through interactive, hands-on activities, students will explore a sustainable, eco-friendly, and empathy based human-centered engineering design process. Through hands-on activities and engaging real-life examples, students will also explore basics of nanotechnology: size and scale, practical applications and challenges of nanotechnologies including basic technology ideas associated with creating wafers (make an edible wafer) in a chip fabrication clean room, exploring super-hydrophobic properties of materials, small scale stenciling or patterning materials through selective exposure and development of films, and other nanotechnology topics. Classroom visit by industry professional talking about their work. (Manufacturing Science Sequence)
Class open for students 5th to 8th grade.
